STOCKHOLM, Sweden—The Armenian Revolutionary Federation Youth organization condemned violence and oppression of minorities during a conference over the weekend of the Young European Socialists (ECOSY) entitled “Fight against right-wing extremism and problems of refugees and their integration.”
The ARF Bureau Youth office was represented by Anahit Harutunyan of the ARF Nigol Aghbalian Student Association. In her presentation, she stressed the ARF’s position of unequivocal opposition to violence and oppression, saying that democratic governments must protect the rights of minorities and under-represented people, while emphasizing the need for the free integration of minorities in society.
The conference, hosted by Sweden’s Social-Democratic party’s youth organization, focused on the role and importance of social-democratic parties in the struggle against right-wing extremism and the proliferation of Neo-Nazi movements.
Conference participants provided suggestions on the methods by which social-democratic organization must counter and fights against extremism in the name of defending human rights.
The Danish, Norwegian and Austrian delegations made presentation about the rise of right-wing movements within European governments, especially in Scandinavian countries, and sounded the alarm on the dangers and threats posed to minorities.
The Czech Republic, Belgium and Germany were also among countries represented at the conference.
Harutunyan also met with other country representatives on the sidelines of the conference to discuss future cooperation and strengthening of relations between ARF Youth and its European counterparts.
Over the last years, it has come to the point that I cannot recognize the Sweden I once knew. Last week PM Reinfeldt seemed to speak of ‘etnisk svensk’ (ethnic Swedes) as the indicators of how the country was doing, apparently dismissing the importance of the rest of us. But that’s just a reality immigrants and minorities here face, with government reports documenting discrimination in the job market and even Sweden’s authorities and legal system.
Of course, once discrimination enters a state’s official structures, it carries the force of law, the implications being devastating for those not born here of majority heritage. But, perhaps that’s why I wrote a piece titled: “Living as a ‘Sub-Human’ in Sweden” http://www.counterpunch.org/2012/04/06/living-as-a-sub-human-in-sweden/
The Turks in Europe and their criminal activities are why the Neo-Nazis have grown. The Turks are causing so much crime and other problems that Europe is sick and tired of them. The Turks control the entire drug and prostitution trade in Europe. Send the Turks back to Turkey and the Neo-Nazi problem will solve itself.
You can’t blame every single thing on Turks. Sometimes you have to dig a little deeper. Most of the Right wing Fascists that have wrecked havoc both in Armenia and throughout Europe are not minorities themselves but radical/extremist nationalists. Remember Anders Breivik the orchestrator of the Holiday Island Massacre? Remember just recently in Armenia the men who bombed that gay bar (and subsequently the parliamentarians who bailed them out)? Europe has a huge immigration/integration problem. But you cannot justify the violence that is happening all around us.
