
ENCINO—The ANCA- San Fernando Valley West Chapter welcomes the successful election of Armenian American candidates to the Encino Neighborhood Council.
On Saturday, September 29, 2012, four Armenian-Americans participated in an election for the Encino Neighborhood Council. The Encino Neighborhood Council election once again engaged the Armenian American community of the San Fernando Valley and its sister organizations to successfully elect its community members.
The four Armenian-American candidates elected to the Neighborhood Council are incumbent, Talar Derderian, who was re-elected as the Planning and Land Use Representative; John Tashtchian, who was elected Public Safety Representative, Viken Chelebian, who was elected Religious Organization Representative, and Hrag Kitsinian, who was elected Volunteer and Service Organization Representative.
“We welcome the election of these four dynamic individuals and look forward to working with them on issues of concern affecting community members of Encino and the greater San Fernando Valley,” said Chairman of the ANCA-SFW, Nareg Kitsinian.
Since 2008, Armenian American community members of Encino have been successfully engaged in local politics by participating in the Encino Neighborhood Council elections. Serving in an advisory capacity to the Los Angeles City Council, Encino Neighborhood Council Members make important decisions dealing with a variety of issues such as planning and land use, public safety and education. In addition to contributing to the general welfare of Encino residents and businesses, Armenian American Council members also serve as ambassadors of the Armenian Community to the Encino Neighborhood Council.
The Armenian National Committee of America, San Fernando Valley West advances the social, economic, cultural, and political rights of the area’s Armenian American community and promotes increased civic participation at the grassroots and public policy levels.
