OSTERSUND, Sweden—The Artsakh national soccer team on Thursday defeated Darfur 12 – 0 at the ConIFA World Football Cup, an international soccer tournament for countries who are not represented in FIFA.
Artsakh’s national team beat Darfur, but lost two of its previous games – against the Isle of Man (3 – 2) and the County of Nice (1 – 0) — making them unable to advance from the group stage to the tournament’s play-offs.
Artsakh will, however, continue playing in the tournament. The team’s next game is against tournament hosts Lapland on Saturday for ninth place.
Twelve teams are participating in the tournament: Abkhazia, County of Nice (Countea de Nissa), Isle of Man (Ellan Vannin), Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh), Padania, South Ossetia, Assyria (Arameans Suryoye), Darfur United, Kurdistan, Occitania, Lapland (Sapmi), and Sri Lanka (Tamil Eelam).
