YEREVAN (RFE/RL)Unidentified gunmen opened fire late Monday evening on the car carrying the mayor of Gumri Vartan Ghoukassian from his meeting in Yerevan of the Republican Partys executive council. Ghoukassian was injured and taken to the St. Gregory the Illuminator hospital. Law enforcement officials told Radio Free Europe that four people who were in Ghoukassians car and another escorting the vehicle were killed. Republican Party spokesperson Eduard Sharmazian said that Ghoukassian left at 10 p.m. after the partys executive council session ended.
