GLENDALE—Shant Sahakian on March 29 announced that California State Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian has endorsed his campaign for Glendale School Board District D.
“Shant Sahakian is an experienced leader who has a record of putting the needs of our community first,” stated Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian. “His problem solving approach, engagement in the community, professional experience in technology, and commitment to innovating and modernizing our public schools make him the best candidate for the seat. I am proud to endorse Shant for Glendale School Board District D.”
As the past Chair of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on State Administration, Nazarian shed light on the decline of funding of our state’s tobacco licensing program and not only increased funding of law enforcement personnel to strengthen tobacco sales oversight to minors but also authored legislation which increased fees on tobacco retailers to fund programs like First 5. He also authored and passed into law the Armenian Genocide Education Act (AB 1915) that helped ensure that the Armenian Genocide would be included in the new History-Social Studies curriculum framework adopted by the California State Board of Education.
Nazarian has an impressive record of community service, with a strong connection to Glendale based organizations, having served on the boards of the Glendale Youth Alliance, and the YWCA. He was one of the founding members of the Generation Next Mentorship program, which worked within the Glendale Unified Schools to provide the students with an alternative to a life of gangs and drugs.
“I am truly honored and humbled to have received the endorsement of State Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian,” said Shant Sahakian. “I look forward to working with our State Assemblymember on improving our public schools and ensuring we are providing a 21st century public education for all of our students.”
