HOLLYWOOD–On the afternoon of April 13, attorney Chant Yedalian and businessman Babken Dolabjian visited Rose and Alex Pilibos Armenian School to meet with Principal Nazo Apanian and Mary Postoian Pre-School Director Takouhi Saatjian. Prelacy Executive Council Chair Dr. Garo Agopian was also present.
The visit offered the opportunity to discuss the scholarship fund established through Yedalian and Dolabjian a few months ago at the Pre-School. Yedalian explained that he was approached by Dolabjian to represent his company, Coral Reef Properties, Inc.. After the parties involved in the lawsuit received their settlement, a sum of $104,611.49 remained. An agreement was made to donate the residual funds to a charitable cause, specifically to one which benefits children.
Yedalian immediately thought to donate the sum to Mary Postoian Pre-School, given that his mother Zevart Yedalian (deceased) had for many years been the Director of the Pre-School. He turned to his father Varoujan Yedalian and Mr. Dolabjian, as they were also familiar with the school.
“Our first choice was to donate to a pre-school because there is often no means for needy families to obtain student aid for their children at that age,” explained Mr. Yedalian.
When the scholarship fund was established a few months ago, Yedalian and Dolabjian consulted with H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, and the Executive Council to discuss how the funds would be allocated. It was decided that tuition assistance would be granted to low income families, and each year the full tuition of one student would be covered through the scholarship.
“Our goal is to help these children by giving them the benefit of a pre-school education,” said Yedalian, who went on to state that this is not the first nor the last time a portion of a settlement has been allocated to a worthy cause.
