GLENDALE (AYF PR Office)–The Armenian Youth Federation Western Region held its 30th Annual Convention at AYF Camp Big Pines with 45 delegates representing 13 chapters on the weekend of September 26-28.
After an in-depth evaluation of the state of the organization–the meeting presented several resolutions to overcome the challenges facing not only the AYF–but also Armenian youth as a whole.
The convention decided to increase the AYF’s efforts in its campaign against Turkish products and to take a more active role in political matters concerning the Armenian community and its youth.
Reaffirming the AYF’s commitment to the Armenian Cause–by reaching out and serving the needs of the Armenian youth–the convention emphasized the important role the AYF plays in our national struggle.
Some of the major decisions at the Annual Convention included forming coalitions with non-Armenian organizations to combat the denial of the Armenian Genocide more effectively–and the necessity to increase educational opportunities for AYF members.
The meeting commended the outgoing Central Executive for the Little Armenia Clean Up–the protest at the Turkish Consulate–the hunger strike at the Museum of Tolerance–its public service campaigns–Youth Corps’s work in Artsakh–and its participation in the ARF Youth Jamboree and the "Baze" Youth Jamboree in Armenia.
The convention concluded with the election of a seven-member Central Executive. The members of the newly elected Central Executive are Shant Baboujian–Katya Douzjian–Myrna Douzjian–Sevag Garabetian–Vicken Sosikian–Tro Tchekidjian–and Sose Thomassian.
Present at the Convention were representatives from the ARF Shant Student Association–ARF Western Region Central Committee–and the ARF Bureau Youth Affairs Council
