YEREVAN (Azg)–French President Jacques Chirac met with Charles Aznavour Friday and awarded him with an Order of Honored Legion Officer.
Chirac stressed during the ceremony that Aznavour is the most famous French chansonie and a person who has used his fame to improve the world. He noted that Aznavour is closely attached to Armenia–where he was born– and constantly helps this country–both by material and spiritual means.
The order of Honored Legion was established in 1809 by Napoleon Bonapart–and has five degrees. Honored Legion Officer is second highest degree of the award.
