As the tagline of the show states, “If anybody knows the holidays, it’s the Armenians…celebrating Christmas since 301 A.D.” The original production portrays Armenian family life and tradition. Vignettes include “King Trdat and Christianity,” “Santa Clause at Pilibos” and “The Annual Ararat Home Talent Show.”
Also included in the show are new videos in the vein of Tatoulian’s hugely popular “MTV Cribs Dan Deegen – House Diva”, which has received 12,000 hits on Youtube. The spots, directed by filmmaker and music video director Sevag Vrej, include “Armenian Barbie.”
“Big Bad Armo Christmas” features a returning cast of actors from Tatoulian’s original show which played for sold out audiences earlier this year. The ensemble includes Voki Kalfayan (“Gazillionaire”); Anais Thomassian (Penny Pibbets and lead singer of the musical group Fish Circus); Alex Kalognomos (“ER”, “Spaceman on Earth”); Helen Kalognomos (“Seeroun Storytellers”); and James Martin (“Vort”). Thomassian and Kalafyan share writing credit with Tatoulian, and Kalafyan helms the production as director.
Tatoulian, a Fresno native, has been staging shows in Los Angeles for over 10 years. “I’m so excited to bring back this ensemble of actors with all new material,” says Tatoulian. “The community has embraced these light-hearted characters, such as Dan Deegen, and I’m sincerely humbled by all of the support.”
In an effort to give back to the community, Tatoulian is making a donation in support of special programs implemented by CASPS for Armenian students in public schools. For more information please visit www.casps.org .
