YEREVAN (Azg) — The smuggling of ancient hand-woven Armenian carpets was thwarted when Seyran Mirzoyan of Vanadzor was caught with 16 carpets in his luggage at the Gogavan checkpoint while on his way to Turkey.
Mirzoyan insisted that he bought the rugs for only $1,500.
Armenia’s Ministry of Culture has begun an investigation to find out the real value of the carpets.
