YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Chairman of Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission (CEC) Artak Sahradian met today with representatives of the International Foundation of Electoral Systems (IFES)–led by Albert Disi. Their intent is to focus on a joint program to prepare for a string of elections expected in the country later this year and earlier next year. Senior USAID officials were also present at the meeting.
The CEC and USAID are set to sign a memorandum in September whereby the latter will release funds to the IFES to implement a program managing the upcoming elections in Armenia.
According to earlier arrangemen’s–the IFES will be working towards increasing the awareness of voters through preparation of various posters–publication of booklets–organization of round table discussions and distribution of other material to boost activity.
Sahradian vowed that electoral commissions on all levels will work openly and transparently with international organizations to provide critical information–thus enable efficient handling of elections.
