BEVERLY HILLS–The Armenian Consulate General of Los Angeles has opted to cancel all events dedicated to the 10th anniversary of Armenia’s Independence. In an announcement issued Wednesday–the organizing committee for an event–scheduled for Sept. 22–expressed its condolences to the community. Below is the text of that announcement.
The entire Armenian American community joins President George W. Bush in condemning the despicable terrorist attacks on America.
In the wake of this most tragic event in deep sympathy with the people and the Government of the United States of America–we have canceled all the festivities and celebrations dedicated to the 10th Independence Anniversary of the Republic of Armenia. In particular–the event scheduled for September 22–2001 at Glendale High school to be held under the auspices of the Consulate General of the Republic of Armenia has also been canceled.
We pay tribute to the numerous innocent victims of these horrendous attacks and our hearts and prayers go to the families who lost their loved ones.
