SANTA MONICA—A 200-year-old Spanish-style house with 10 acres of space in the Santa Monica Mountains in Malibu can now be booked as an event venue for a party, thanks to a new service launched Tuesday called Eventup.com.
The Web-based service allows property owners to rent out their homes, mansions and other spaces for weddings and other events.
Founder and CEO Tony Adam told the Wall Street Journal Digits blog Tuesday that the service is designed to benefit both property owners and venue seekers, providing event planners and individuals to find alternatives to conventional venues.
Adam, who was a panelist during last fall’s ANC Grassroots event also told the WSJ blog that he has hundreds of venues lined up for the launch and will have close to 1,000 spaces listed on the Web site within a few weeks.
The 10-acre venue in the Santa Monica Mountains, a Malibu house with panoramic ocean views and a Prohibition-era bar are among the venues Adam has listed at Eventup.com
Adam told WSJ blog that the company will list only venues initially, but plans to eventually branch out to list everything else needed for a good party: caterers, DJs, florists and portable toilets, among other things.
Adam was the Director of Online Marketing at Myspace where he headed search engine optimization, social media, paid traffic and viral content for the audience marketing division. He writes extensively about online marketing, and has participated in many online marketing conferences such as PubCon and SXSW Interactive. He began working in technology in 2000, after completing his undergraduate education in Computer Science at Mt. Sierra College.
His presentation at ANC Grassroots focused on the effective use of social media tools for the advancement of advocacy and activism.
