LISBON, Portugal—The former editor of The Armenian Weekly Khatchig Mouradian has won a China Fellowship to study the Armenian presence in China from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
Mouradian, who concluded his tenure as The Armenian Weekly editor last month, is the Coordinator of the Armenian Genocide Program at the Center for the Study of Genocide and Human Rights at Rutgers University, where he also teaches in the History and Sociology departments as adjunct professor. Mouradian joined The Armenian Weekly in 2007.
He is also the recipient of the first Hrant Dink Freedom and Justice Medal (2014) of the Organization of Istanbul Armenians. Mouradian is a PhD Candidate at the Strassler Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Clark University, currently completing his dissertation, titled “Genocide and Humanitarian Resistance in Ottoman Syria, 1915-1917.”.
“During this fellowship, I plan to mine the extant primary and secondary sources pertaining to Armenians in China, as well as conduct interviews with community members. The ensuing report and interview transcripts—the product of work that will take me from San Francisco to London to Beijing—will provide future researchers on this and related topics with a treasure trove of materials,” said Mouradian.
