GLENADLE—The mayor of Glendale Zareh Sinanyan, as well as the relatives of 4-year-old Violeta Khachaturyn, who was killed after a driver hit her and fled scene, have set up two separate crowdfunding platforms to help defray the costs of her funeral.
Individuals wishing to donate may visit crowdrise.com/violetakhachaturyan, set up by the Mayor Sinanyan, or tilt.com/campaigns/help-cover-violetas-funeral, set up by Violeta’s relatives.
The incident happened just before 5 p.m. on Friday, when Violeta ran from her front yard on East Wilson Avenue, into oncoming traffic and was struck by a vehicle, whose driver fled the scene, according to a news story in the Glendale News Press.
Violeta was thrown a “significant distance” from the impact, about the length of four cars, into the back end of a parked car, the Glendale city spokesman Tom Lorenz was quoted by the Glendale News Press. She was transported to Glendale Adventist Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 5:34 p.m. Friday.
The hit-and-run suspect was released from jail Sunday after posting $50,000 bail, authorities said. He was identified as Shant Badleean, 55, who surrendered himself on Saturday at the Glendale police station, reportedly accompanied by his family and the pastor of his church, Lorenz was quoted by the Glendale News Press as saying. After police interviewed Badleean and recovered the vehicle involved in the collision, Badleean was arrested on suspicion of felony hit and run.
Very tragic to all involved. God bless this little angel.
