Artsakh’s health ministry said that medication that was transported to Artsakh through the mediation of the International Committee of the Red Cross will only last 10 days, as the Azerbaijani blockade of the Lachin Corridor entered its 16th day.
“At the mediation of the International Committee of the Red Cross, 10 tons of humanitarian cargo including medications, baby food, other medical items were transported to Artsakh. The medications will be distributed among hospitals and will meet the demand of ten days,” the health ministry said, expressing its appreciation to the ICRC.
On Tuesday, Artsakh State Minister Ruben Vardanyan met with executives of food supply and production companies to discuss challenges facing their businesses as a result of the Azerbaijani blockade of Artsakh. He also discussed food safety concerns.
The executives told Vardanyan that in this situation their priority is the national interest and expressed willingness to work in cooperation with the authorities to jointly withstand the crisis, Vardanyan’s office said in a statement.
The businessmen offered the authorities to consider using their infrastructures in maintaining and proportionally distributing food reserves, as shortages threaten the lives of Artsakh residents.
A group of Azerbaijanis claiming to be environmental activists concerned with what they call the illegal operation of mines around the Lachin Corridor have blockaded the road since December 12.
The human rights defenders of Armenia and Artsakh issued a report about the actual intentions of the so-called Azerbaijani environmental activists.
The report contains evidence that since early November, Azerbaijan’s leaders have been preparing and developing public opinion regarding the Lachin blockade, by using official channels and state-affiliated media.
“The Azerbaijani government’s propaganda machine continues to widely utilize methods of inciting Armenophobia and particularly ethnic hatred toward Armenians of Artsakh, in an attempt to advance these methods through the sentiments of the fake environmental activists,” the report says.
The updated report includes new data on participants of the fake environmental demonstration and the state of rights in conditions of the humanitarian crisis.
