YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–A forum in defense of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic is scheduled to be held at the Cinema House in Yerevan Saturday. The forum is expected to be attended by political and public organizations–as well as representatives of the country’s intelligentsia.
Invitations to attend the forum will be sent to the prime minister–the defense minister and the foreign minister–as well as to Karabakh’s leadership. It is also planned to invite Levon Ter-Petrosyan.
The Karabakh issue is now on a wrong plane–well-known actor Sos Sargssian said–speaking at a conference of representatives of political and public forces and the country’s intelligentsia held at the Office of the Democratic Party of Armenia Wednesday. According to him–the fact that in 1920 Armenia’s borders were broken up has been forgotten–and now the matter concerns only the integrity and inviolability of Armenia’s borders.
Sargssian described the recent news conference by Ter-Petrosyan as a call to leave Armenia–referring to the need to clear out why–being an Armenian–Ter-Petrosyan is pursuing an anti-Armenian policy: "whether he has sold himself or is playing a serious chess game," he said.
DPA chairman Aram Sargssian suggested that Ter-Petrosyan had already surrendered by failing to launch normal activities–in particular failing to launch serious diplomacy and not making any attempt to unite the whole nation. According to him–it is not to sign an agreement to hand over Karabakh to Azerbaijan that they demand from Ter-Petrosyan but to sign under the document accepting the Minsk Group proposals. As a result–Karabakh will not agree and start opposing it–so a new war will break out–while international organizations will get the right to raise the matter at the UN and demand that Karabakh be punished–that is the Bosnian variant will be applied. In Sargssian’s opinion–today neither Russia–nor any other country is ready to defend Armenia’s interests in the matter of Karabakh–apart from Iran–which is ready to stand next to Armenia–but no activities are being launched by the Armenian leadership in that direction.
Sargssian feels that the public movement in defense of Karabakh should start first of all demand that Ter-Petrosyan who is not in a position to pursue right policies should resign.
The conferees said it was necessary to let the whole world know that the words by Ter-Petrosyan who stole 27 percent of the votes are not the voice of the people of Armenia and he is not entitled to cede territories. It was mentioned that there was a need to ensure the nation’s unity–as it is only that way that any progress can be achieved. In that connection those present pointed out the importance of calling a nationwide forum "In Defense of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic" after holding a scheduled meeting.
