Women’s Group Throws Support Behind Education Reformer
GLENDALE, CA—The National Women’s Political Caucus on Tuesday announced its endorsement of Glendale School Board Member Nayiri Nahabedian for the 43rd District of the California State Assembly. Nahabedian’s advocacy for working families, both as a School Board Member and as an educator, as well as her work on the Glendale Commission on the Status of Women, made this a natural endorsement.
“Nayiri’s record on women’s issues is excellent,” said NWPC California President Teray Stephens. “Her impassioned advocacy for women’s issues has been evident in her activism, her time as a Glendale Commissioner, and her work on improving the welfare of low-income women. It is imperative that we send her to the Assembly. She is the most qualified advocate of reproductive rights and gender equality that we could put forward in the 43rd.”
“I’ve always worked mindful of women’s issues throughout my career,” said Nahabedian of the endorsement. “I am pleased to have the NWPC behind me, and I hope that, once I am in the Assembly, I’ll be able to use this new platform to address the issues affecting working women – those working in the home and in the workforce – and families in California.”
The National Women’s Political Caucus is a bipartisan grassroots organization dedicated to increasing women’s participation in the political field and achieving equality for all women in California and throughout the nation.
“While women represent over half of the population in California, they only make up about 20% of the Assemblymembers,” Stephens remarked. “Electing Nayiri to the Assembly would be a step in the right direction.”
California’s 43rd Assembly District spans the cities of Burbank and Glendale. It also includes portions of Los Angeles. The seat was recently vacated by Los Angeles City Councilmember Paul Krekorian. A special election primary is scheduled for April 13th, with a general election to follow on June 8th.
