YEREVAN (Public Radio of Armenia)— One of France’s best winemakers Franck Thomas, who was named Europe’s best sommelier in 2000, has praised the quality of Armenian wine, reported Armenia’s Ministry of Agriculture.
At the invitation of advisor to Armenia’s Minister of Agriculture Armen Mehrabyan with the support of the Vine and Wine Foundation of Armenia, the Dynamic Development Group International, Tovmasyan Exceptional Food and Beverage, Fine food, and Well Fusion organizations, Franck Thomas arrived to Armenia to participate in winetasting and master classes.
“Armenia is an interesting country for me because it is one of the birthplaces of wine,” said Franck Thomas. “Armenian wine can hold a unique place in the international market due to its variety of grape selection.”
Executive Director of Vine and Wine Foundation of Armenia Zaruhi Muradyan discussed the importance of hosting events like this on order to raise awareness of Armenian wine. “A positive evaluation of our wines by the sommelier will be great advertisement and will put us in competition with others while exposing us to new markets,” said Muradyan.
According to the advisor to Armenia’s Minister of Agriculture Armen Mehrabyan, the people of Armenia are trying to return to their traditional roots by upholding a healthy eating and wine drinking lifestyle among Armenian households. “The culture of wine is part of that traditional lifestyle and visits by the sommelier will only support that revival,” said Mehrabyan.
At the end of his wine tasting and master classes, Franck Thomas shared his impressions of the wine production in Armenia and discussed prospects of delivering the Armenian wine to European countries.
For over 10 years, Franck Thomas has been educating, supporting and advising professionals in the wine world.
Large companies have used his services for marketing, merchandising and communication in the wine, champagne, and spirits sector.
