YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Democratic Party of Armenia leader Aram Sargssian called Levon Ter-Petrossyan’s recent proposals for a settlement of the Karabakh conflict "groundless," and said Ter-Petrossyan’s suggestion of solving the problem through a stage-by-stage process was strictly his own opinion of the best possible solution–and not that of the Armenian or Karabakh people.
"Levon Ter-Petrossyan is trying to reanimate "Bleyanism," said Sargssian–referring to former Parliament member Kim Bleyan’s supposed pacifist mission to Baku. "The ideology which was condemned by the Armenian people is trying to return–and attempts are being made to form a public opinion that Armenia’s are allegedly weak and can’t resist."
Sargssian believes the most important issue facing the Armenian people today is to defend Artsakh from all enemies–foreign or internal– and added that he felt the current negotiations for an end to the conflict were not negotiations at all–but the attempted implementation of a program not in the best interest of the Armenian people.
"Our entire nation has to rise up–as it is only in that case that we can stop others from imposing such decisions on us," Sargssian said
Sargssian pointed out the need to convene a nationwide forum in defense of Nagorno Karabakh as soon as possible–saying–however–that some of the authorities hadn’t yet responded to that initiative–while the Church was waiting for a comment from authorities.
