JAVAKHK (Yerkir/NTI)–The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) high commissioner on national minorities Rolf Ekeus arrived today in Georgia for a three-day visit; he will participate in the seminar on ‘Integration and Development Programs of the Samtskhe-Javakhk region.’
During his visit–Ekeus will meet with Georgian President Shevardnadze–and Georgian Parliament Speaker Nino Burjanidze–as well as other top officials.
On a prior–recent visit to the region–Ekeus studied socio-economic conditions and ethnic problems of Samtskhe-Javakhk.
Ambassador Ekeus currently serves as chairman of the board of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute. He has filled a number of diplomatic posts–including Swedish ambassador to the US and head of the UN Special Commission on Iraq.
