YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Armenian President Robert Kocharian held a meeting Wednesday with a delegation of the Cultural Parliament. The delegation included Silva Kaputikian–Anahit Sainian–Eduard Isabekian–Aram Satian–Gevorg Gharibjanian–Paris Geruni–Arevshat Avagian–Hrach Ter-Sahakian–Varlen Alexanian and Pushkin Serobian.
Outlining the main trends of the Cultural Parliament’s activities–President of the Armenian Cultural Fund Arevshat Avagian stated that the chief purpose of the Parliament is strengthening the statehood–assisting the authorities in leading the country out of the heavy social and economic crisis and taking measures aimed at remedying the cultural and spiritual environment.
During the meeting the sides held an open discussion of the political–social and economic situation in Armenia–cultural problems–as well as the possibilities of overcoming the current difficulties. The president presented his assessmen’s of the current situation and political realities. The meeting participants expressed the opinion that the potential of the intelligentsia is not currently fully used.
The sides stated that the priority task is in restoring the people’s confidence in their own strength. "The people need a secure future," they said. The representatives of the intelligentsia stressed that they pin their hopes for the future on the president and are willing to support him.
