YEREVAN (Armradio)–Armenian Presidential Spokesman Viktor Soghomonyan Monday condemned Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s January 11 statement describing Armenia as a militarized and undemocratic regime with nothing to offer the world.
Aliyev’s remarks came during an expanded session of his Cabinet of Ministers. The Azerbaijani president declared that Azerbaijan is opening up and becoming a transit country, while Armenia is a closed off, militarized and anti-democratic regime, which can give nothing to the international community.
During the meeting Aliyev declared that Armenia "lives under the conditions of a closed, militarized and anti-democratic regime" and that "Armenia can give nothing to the international community neither from the political, economic or cultural point of view."
"We are transforming into an irreplaceable country for Europe and the world," Aliyev sid. "What can Armenia give to the world community? Nothing from the political, economic, transport or cultural points of view."
According to Aliyev, Armenia is a monolithic and undemocratic state that has forcefully driven out its minorities through military force.
"In Nagorno Garabagh a criminal group has occupied the region ruled by military and criminal and illegal regime, where no international monitoring is held," Izvestiya newspaper quoted Ilham Aliyev as saying.
"The latest statemen’s of the Azerbaijani President are deprived of rational sense and are nearly impossible to comment on," Soghomonyan remarked.
