BAKU—Representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) visited an Armenian citizen who was taken prisoner by Azeri authorities after wandering across the border into Azerbaijan.
The meeting took place on Sept. 16. The captive’s family was informed about him, a spokesperson for the ICRC Baku Office told APA.
Armenian citizen Sarkis Ananyan, born in 1961, crossed the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan on Aug. 26 into the Gazagh region.
Armenia’s defense minister is now establishing cooperation with forensic doctors and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to search for people missing as a result of the Karabakh conflict, the press office of the defense ministry reports.
A document was signed on Wednesday as Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanian met with Director of the National Center for Forensic Medicine Mher Bisharyan and Head of the ICRC Delegation in Armenia Sarah Epprecht.
This document implies sampling and storage of biological materials of members of missing people’s families and collection of other personal data.
Samples will be kept in the National Center for Forensic Medicine and used if necessary.
