20 years ago, on February 28, Azeri OMON (special) forces began a pogrom against Armenia’s living in the Azeri city of Sumgait. This was a direct response by Azeris to millions of Armenia’s demonstrating in Yerevan and Stepanakert to demand for the unification of Armenia and Karabakh. Those protests had begun eight days earlier and sparked the Karabakh liberation movement.
