LOS ANGELES—The Hamazkayin Western Regional Executive Board is excited to announce the return of the Hamazkayin Sos Sargsyan State Theater Company from Armenia for a six day festival of Armenian theater at El Portal Theater in North Hollywood, starting on September 30 thru October 5.
Last year’s successful run of 11 performances was hailed as “triumphant” and with “exceptional caliber”. More than 1400 students from 12 schools participated in an unprecedented field trip to experience Armenian theater from Armenia. The festival created a lasting impression among its audience and a longing for more opportunities to engage with theater.
The Los Angeles community will have the pleasure of welcoming the Hamazkayin State Theater Company once again with its cast and crew of 16 members. This six-day festival will feature multiple performances of four different pieces: “The Best Home” by Ruben Maroukhyan, a musical performance for children, “Salvation Island,” by William Saroyan, “Under 44 Degrees,” by Astghik Simonyan, a drama about emigration from the Homeland and a Variety Show finale. Due to high demand, “Under 44 Degrees” will be performed again for those who missed the performance last year. The festival will conclude with a variety show of musical and theatrical performances showcasing the numerous talents of the Company.
The Western Regional board is committed to promoting theater arts to our community and continuing the long-standing mission of Hamazkayin to instill the love of Armenian theater and language in children, teens and adults.
Please join Hamazkayin Armenian Educational and Cultural Society by contributing to the cultural enrichment of our youth and community by providing support to our theater actors and company.
