YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan) — "Nobody will be able to hinder the military cooperation between Armenia and Russia," Deputy Defense Minister of Armenia–Major General Mkrtich Abramian said at an assembly dedicated to the "Homeland Defenders’ Day" on Friday.
Russia’s Ambassador to Armenia Andrei Urnov addressed soldiers and officers of the Russian military stationed in Yerevan and veterans of World War II.
Urnov stressed the necessity and importance of the presence of Russian military bases in Armenia.
"Russia needs military bases in the Transcaucasus. Armenia also needs them–the entire region and the world need them as they are a guarantor of peace and stability in the region," he said.
Major General Aleksey Tretyakov–head of the management group of the Russian units in Armenia–presented certificates of appreciation and gifts to the director of the Russian Drama Theater– Alexander Grigorian–chairman of the Armenian Veterans’ Council–Sarkis Grigorian–and the Russian servicemen.
Russian Military Attache Col. Anatoly Balayev–his aide Vladimir Yuzhakov and deputy chairman of the Armenian Veterans’ Council–Alexander Stepanian–attended the ceremony.
