SOCHI (Itar-Tass)–The deputy commander of the Russian Coast Guard–Admiral Vyacheslav Bormotov–said that Russia has no intention of removing its naval base from the Abkhazian city of Ochamchira. "More troops will be assigned and reassigned to the base," he said.
He dismissed statemen’s by Abkhazian leaders alleging that the base would be removed from the Abkhazian territory.
According to an unnamed source at the Russian Border Guard Service–changes at the base–including the reassigning of its personnel–might have provoked statemen’s from Abkhazian officials that Russian troops were withdrawing from Ochamchira.
Similar reassignmen’s have been made at Russian border checkpoints in Armenia previously.
