The Armenian National Committee of America – San Gabriel Valley Chapter on Thursday hosted an event to honor Congresswoman Grace Napolitano, a stellar advocate in the U.S. House of Representatives.
As her distinguished career, spanning more than 35 years, comes to an end, representatives of the ARF Dro Gomideh and ANCA-SGV chapter wanted to thank the Congresswoman for years of service while representing the district and her efforts to bring light to issues of concern relating to the Armenian-American community,
The relationship between Congresswoman Napolitano and the ANCA-SGV chapter predates her election to Congress. In their remarks, both ARF Central Committee Chairman Garo Madenlian and long time ANCA activist Levon Kirakosian touched on how the relationship was established and has developed since the 1990s.
ARF Dro Gomideh Chairman Jack Hadjinian presented an “Appreciation Award” to Congresswoman Grace Napolitano during the event.
“I met Congresswomen Napolitano in 1998 when was just a candidate for Congress, she is my mentor and was an early supporter of my political endeavors. Congresswoman, you are a strong Latina that did so much for our people in America who lived in the shadow of the Armenian Genocide. Your work will never be forgotten,” said Hadjinian.
Congresswoman Napolitano maintained an A+ rating with the ANCA during her career in the House of Representatives.
Organized by the ARF Dro Gomideh, the event was also attended by Mesrobian School Principal Lena Garabedian, ANCA – Western Region Chairman Oshin Harootoonian, Board of Regents member Silva Kirakosian, Mesrobian School Board member Kathy Fundukian, and Armenian Relief Society “Nairy” Chapter members.
