LOS ANGELES—To celebrate the 85th anniversary of Hamazkayin Educational and Cultural Society, the Western Regional Executive Board has invited the Hamazkayin Sos Sargsyan State Theater Company from Armenia for a five day festival of Armenian theater at Barnsdall Theater in Los Angeles and ARTN Theater in Glendale, starting on October 16, 2013 thru October 20, 2013.
The Western Regional board is continuing the long-standing mission of Hamazkayin founding fathers to promote theater arts to Armenian communities all over the world. This unprecedented theater festival will instill the love of Armenian theater in children, teens and adults. The plays will promote expression in our Armenian language and educate on important topics.
The Los Angeles community will have the pleasure of welcoming the Hamazkayin State Theater Company under the artistic direction of famed director Sos Sargsyan with its cast and crew of 16 members. This five-day festival will feature multiple performances of four different pieces:
“Anpan Hourin” by Hovhanes Toumanian, a musical to be performed for Armenian school students on October 16 and 17 at 10:30 am and 12:30 pm.
“44 Degrees,” a drama about emigration, on October 17 and 18 at 8 p.m., and October 18 at 10:30 am for students.
“Sale,” a tragicomedy performance on October 19 with shows at 3 pm and 8 pm
A variety show of musical and theatrical performances with one show only on Sunday October 20 at 5 pm
In order to achieve the goals of the festival, a Theater Festival Committee has been formed to organize the logistics of staging 10 performances as well as promote them to the community. Principals of all the Armenian schools in Southern California have been invited to send their students to experience Armenian theater from Armenia. All of the schools will participate and have organized field trips for their students.
