YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–KalTrade Armenia Division–a subsidiary of the Swiss KalTrade firm–recently held a business meeting in hotel "Armenia."
KalTrade Armenia Division was established in Armenia by Turkish businessmen in August 1996. Currently–the subsidiary imports food products (mainly flour and sugar) and is engaged in wholesale trade.
According to Erdal Saral–the director of the subsidiary–10,000 tons of food products have been imported into Armenia’since its opening. Food products from different countries are shipped to Batumi and then transported by railroad to Armenia.
Kerim Kalafatoglu–Vice-President and the Executive Director of KalTrade–stressed the importance of opening the Armenian-Turkish border which would facilitate cargo shipmen’s to Armenia.
According to him–the firm is going to expand its activity in Armenia in the future by establishing more new enterprises.
He also said that one of the leading Turkish companies in cargo shipping–Transkal–has already started activity in Armenia.
The company will be operating as a subsidiary of the well-known "SMA" transport firm of France.
According to Kalafatoglu–the immediate task of the firm now is to settle in Armenia.
"For us the best day will be the day when the Armenian-Turkish border opens," Kalafatoglu said.
