ANKARA (Armenpress)–Leader of Turkish Justice and Rebirth party Recep Erdogan said an alliance with Russia and Iran could be an alternative to Turkey’s strive for the European Union. The alliance–according to him–could also involve Armenia.
The Turkish Aksam daily quotes Erdogan as saying that it is now time to act and not to speak.
He said he was positive about the Turkish drive to join the European Union–but "if Turkey fails to meet EU standards–it would mean that we do not need it".
"Why not embark on cooperation with Armenia together with Russia and Iran? Turkey should end the period of having strained relations with its neighbors," he was quoted saying.
