United States Ambassador to Armenia Kristina Kvien on Thursday joined the European Union monitoring mission and observed the situation along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border. She also met with Armenia’s Interior Minister Vahe Ghazaryan in the Syunik Province.
“Ambassador Kvien joined the European Mission in Armenia (EUMA) monitoring mission to observe the situation on the border. The United States welcomes the progress by Armenia and Azerbaijan toward a dignified and durable peace,” a statement by the U.S. Embassy said on Thursday.

Following her meeting with Ghazaryan, the interior minister, Kvien said that the U.S. will work with Armenia to reform its law enforcement agencies.
“During her visit to Syunik, Ambassador Kvien met with the Minister of Internal Affairs Vahe Ghazaryan and the Patrol Police Service, and participated in a donation of medical kit supplies. The United States is committed to working with Armenia to advance reform of law enforcement agencies,” the embassy said in a statement.
Kvien also met with displaced Artsakh Armenians in Kapan to hear about their current needs “and the support they have received from the Armenian government and USAID to create new livelihoods in their communities,” the embassy added.
