YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Poland’s Senate president Bogdan Borusevicz arrived in Armenia Monday and visited the Dzidzernagapert memorial in Yerevan and laid a wreath to commemorate the victims of the Genocide. Speaking to reporters Borusevicz said the people of Poland had also experienced tragic episodes in their history, adding that nations must never forget their history but should look forward. In 2005, the Polish Parliament–the Sejm–voted on resolution officially recognizing the Armenia Genocide, joining Cyprus, Greece, Belgium, Sweden, Italy, France, Slovakia, Germany and the Netherlands as countries that have recognized the Armenian genocide. The Polish leader also met with Armenian Prime Minister Andranik Margarian. The Government’s press service told Armenpress that during the meeting the prime minister said political relations between the two countries were developing dynamically and expressed assurance that the official visit of the Polish delegation will give new impetus to the development of bilateral cooperation in political, economic and other areas. The Armenian prime minister also said that choosing the Euro-integration route, Armenia wanted to establish closer cooperation with Poland taking into consideration its opportunities and experience in the field. Margarian also underscored the development of trade and economic cooperation in the further development of bilateral relations. Borusevich said that Poland was interested in the stable development of the South Caucasus region and Armenia and was ready to put forth its resources toward that end. He also said that the level of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries was not satisfactory which he said is particularly a result of transport blockade. The sides also referred to the regional developmen’s and discussed the Georgian-Russian and Turkish-Armenian relations.
