President Vladimir Putin of Russia on Thursday, once again, pressed for the demarcation and delimitation of borders between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that new Russian proposals on the process were “acceptable” for Yerevan.
Addressing diplomats in Moscow, Putin sounded optimistic about the prospects of the process, but said that Azerbaijan’s attack on Armenia on Tuesday signaled that the situation remained tense.
“The latest skirmishes along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border prove that the situation there has not finally calmed down yet. The mission of the Russian peacekeepers [in Artsakh] as guarantors of the ceasefire and the safety of the civilian population is extremely important,” Putin said.
“The role of Russian diplomacy is undoubtedly growing in continuing efforts on settling disputes between Azerbaijan and Armenia, restoring economic ties in the South Caucasus and unblocking transport corridors,” added Putin.
“We have created a corresponding interstate commission at the level of deputy prime ministers, it is working, and in my opinion, prospects there are not bad. In fact, all countries of the region, including Russia, are interested in the settlement, a long-term settlement of the problem,” explained the Russian leader.
In Yerevan, Pashinyan revealed that Russia had made new proposals for the process of demarcation and delimitation of borders.
“The Russian Defense Ministry has made proposals on the preparatory stage of delimitation and demarcation,” Pashinyan said during his government session on Thursday. “These proposals are acceptable for Armenia.”
The prime minister said he has asked his newly-appointed defense minister, Suren Papikyan, “to clarify the details” of the proposals with his Russian counterpart. “Let’s try to implement the process within the framework of the proposals made by the Russian Federation,” Pashinyan said.
The details of the proposal have not been made public, nor did Pashinyan elaborate on the specifics during the government session.
On Wednesday, a day after Azerbaijan’s aggressive attack on Armenia’s eastern border, Pashinyan told lawmakers in parliament that Baku has been stalling the demarcation and delimitation process, which Yerevan sees as a needed step in stabilizing the region.
Before Putin’s remarks on Thursday, Russia’s Foreign Ministry also emphasized the need for the process to begin.
“The latest developments demonstrate the importance of this process, including the need for a relevant commission to work on the basis of proposals made by the Russian side,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said during her weekly press briefing in Moscow on Wednesday.
BS. Russia told Azeries to attack to make Armenia softer to negotiate anything Russia will request Armenia to do. What a sad and weak Armenia is with such an awful administration and useless diaspora leaders.
MGL,
Sadly I think you are 100% right.
Please don’t bring the “diaspora ” into this. We in the diaspora have had absolutely nothing to say about the way things are run in Armenia. We have been a docile cash cow for the Armenian government. The millions of dollars that have been gathered and sent to Armenia, have been squandered. Dollars contributed by poor retired people, children, individuals who can least afford it. In this war, Armenia may have lost the diaspora.
Yes Yes.. Sorry
I have another another totally useless jhogov to go to, where I can stare at the pictures of our past Fedayis, and pretend that I am doing something of worth.
Refugees for centuries, always dreaming of ways to save us. So we can one day return in glory and repopulate the ancient lands. Nice dream.
Agree with above.
Before agreeing to any proposals, Armenia should throw the Azeris out of Armenian lands, and then negotiate demarcation and delimitation settlements; otherwise those 41 Sq Km land will be gone forever.
No Corridor whatsoever!! As world Armenians said NO to football diplomacy, they should do the same and disallow any government to give corridors. That would be the end and demise of Armenian Statehood and independence.
Its becoming like a chess game. At the same time innocents you teen soldiers are being killed. How about out lands in western Armenia is all forgotten? Gars Ardahan Erzroom and the list goes on. They should be included in the current negotiations.
Armenians must stop their old tribal habits, blaming each other, creating an atmosphere of war among themselves, stop yelling and pointing fingers at each other, stop insulting the opposite party members, your party is not the party of Angels either. The enemy is Putin who is destroying our inner core and unity, keeping our minds away from real enemy activities, and screwing more Turks against the Armenian Nation. Putin already sold us to Turks to save his Ukraine for himself. Putin will make West run away from us. Putin separated Iran’s intention in favor of Armenia. Time to grow up Nicole, it is time to announce military government. Let military leadership handle the war issues. Armenia is on the brink of collapsing and the world will remember us as an old nation like Assyrians without a country. Buy with your leftover money high-tech weaponry. Please resign tomorrow, in the name of the country that you have been born with your stupid well-paid staff members. We need fighters and defenders, which will be provided by the Armenian diaspora, who are willing to destroy rotten Azerbaijan inside out, and cut Putin’s fingers. We will play a Russian lullaby for Putin.
The day Putin sells Armenia, there will be no more Armenia, please stop insulting, you people why don’t you insult the West for doing nothing, for 100+ years have been BSng the Armenians.
Because we gave too much to “mother Russia”, in sciences, military, businesses, war heroes, field marshals, generals, artists, painters, and the best doctors and the best scientists, 3 to 5 hundred thousand martyr Armenian warriors, during 2-nd world war. In return, we’ve got the size of Putin’s middle finger.
That is how KGB members work, they grab you squeeze you, and dump you, and Putin is not exceptional from Vladimir Lenin. So far successfully has been involved with the internal affairs of Armenia. All he wants is a stupid man like Robert Kocharian to pull his gun out of its vault.

It could be said that through their own corruption, enrichment, and ineptitude that the Generals played a key role in losing the war. So what makes you think they would do a better job running the country? Time to get real everyone. What has anyone done to modernize our weaponry and military training in the past year? You can point the finger all you want at the Pashinyan administration, but let’s face the true reality of the fact that it doesn’t matter who was PM last year, the result would have been the same. We need to fund and train a modern military quick.
Zaven
You are so wrong and I will tell you why. There is no question that each and every Armenian leader is to be blamed for the consequences of 2020 war but I am convinced that self-assured but inexperienced and incompetent Pashinyan is responsible for the lion’s share of that disastrous war. When he came to power as a result of a regime change, not a revolution, he said he will eliminate corruption and recover stolen funds and punish those responsible and he did none of those. He instead went after common and ordinary people opposed to him. To secure his seat and power, he retired all experienced and battle-hardened army generals and officers, mostly assigned by former regimes, who had fought in the Liberation War of 1990 replacing them with inexperienced ones loyal and subservient to him.
He helped expedite the resumption of the war by his irresponsible, nonsensical and antagonizing statements while having no plans to back them up. He wasted hundreds of millions of dollars buying sophisticated Russian weapons, i.e. fighter jets, without the capability to use them in the war. He could have spent those precious dollars on buying several hundred military drones and put them to use in the war. Instead of focusing on the Turkish threat next door he engaged in fights and battles with opposition parties. He was completely unprepared for the war. Despite all this, the Armenians were quite successful in repelling the enemy and destroying their armaments early in the war. As things got worse, and this because of his unpreparedness and miscalculations, and because he was so incompetent and inexperienced, not to mention having a suspect relations with Russia, he panicked and stopped the war with disastrous results at a time when he should not have done so. Some say his capitulation was preplanned but I am not sure about that.
He could have stopped the war over a month prior to that and saved thousands of lives but he did not and that primarily for his own image. Instead he decided to stop the war at the worst possible time. The winter was coming and change in the weather could have worked in our favor to regroup and conduct counter attacks. Situations like this had happened in the first war but intelligent leaders of the time knew how to handle the situation they were in and turn things around and ultimately become victorious. In addition, Azerbaijan had used up and exhausted most of its weapons arsenal at the time Pashinyan immaturely stopped the war. Many armed Armenian units ready to attack the enemy at various points, for example one at the gates of Shushi, and take them back and perhaps change the outcome of the war were stopped from doing so because of Pashinyan’s immature and hasty knee-jerk reactions! He did not have and still does not have what it takes to run a country and specially one that had been in a state of war and continues to be. We definitely need a leaders with iron stones who knows how to handle this opportunist but coward enemy!
Obviously, we don’t deserve an independent Armenia. Shame.
