Another soldier of the Armenian Armed Forces was fatally shot on Monday when Azerbaijani forces opened fire on the village of Norabek in Armenia’s Gegharkunik Province.
Armenia’s Defense Ministry reported that around 6:10 p.m. local time. Azerbaijani forces, using different caliber firearms opened fire on the village, killing Suren Safaryan (born 2002), the defense ministry reported.
Gegharkunik governor Karen Sargsyan confirmed to Azatutyun.am that Azerbaijani forces opened fire on near the Norabek village.
This incident comes less than a week after Azerbaijani forces attempted an invasion of Armenia on its eastern border in the Syunik Province. The Defense Ministry on Friday reported that six Armenian soldiers died from the attack, while 13 soldiers were taken hostage, with another 24 missing in action.
Armenia said it has applied to the European Court of Human Rights to ensure respect of the fundamental human rights of the Armenian prisoners of war captured on November 16 during the offensive launched by Azerbaijan, Armenia’s representation at the ECHR said.
With its filing, Armenia is calling the ECHR to apply interim measures against Azerbaijan, in order to ensure respect of the captives’ rights to life and prohibition of torture as envisioned by the European Convention on Human Rights.
These killings, incursions, land occupation, captivating soldiers and using them to extort more territory will continue unpunished and undeterred as long as the Armenian government resorts to very passive and defeatist measures.
Applying to the Russian noncommittal assistance or the EU commission of human rights alone will only make the situation worse. The only language that the Azeri dictator will understand is a forceful slap in his face.
Wake up Armenians, we cannot wait too long. We will loose our homeland.
@GARO!!!
YOU THINK ARMEEENIA HAS STRONG MILITARY TANKS JETS HELICOPTERS DRONES MISSILES SOLDIERS TO GIVE STRONG SLAP?????? YOU ARE NOT SMART MAN GARO!!!!!! ARMEEENIA WASTE 30 YEERS AND BILLIONS OF DOLLARS STEELING MONEY INSTEAD TO MAKE ARMEEENIA RICH AND STRONG!!!! YOU MUST LIVE IN GLENDEL TO TALK OUT OF YOUR ASS LIKE THIS!!!!!!! ONE NEED STRONG HAND TO GIVE STRONG SLAP!!!! ARMEEENIA ON ITS KNEES BEGGING WORLD TO LISTEN AND HELP!!!! SAD!! SAD!!!! SAD!!!!!
Hagop, everyone has a different opinion. Not agreeing with a fellow Armenian, doesn’t justify the language you used. By the way, I don’t even know Garo, if you may think I’m defending his idea due to being friends with him. If you have an opinion, just mention it rather than using unprofessional language. What’s your opinion for a solution? Just mention that. It may seem like Armenia is on its knees but remember 1918 when regular civilian population fought against regular Turkish army, armed to their teeth, stopping Turkey from advancing and taking over the small portion of Armenia that’s left. Armenia (our sacred land) and Armenians have always risen from ashes even from thousands of years ago against huge empires such as Roman and Persian empires. By the way, it’s always the outside the country, for any country and people, that in cooperation with their brothers and sisters living inside the country help their fatherland rise and stand on its feet. And YES I live in Glendale, USA but I don’t just sit on my behind and wait for something to happen. There are many resources through which thousands of dollars that I have transferred (donated) can be used. I know first hand where it goes and how it’s used. A good example is the state of Israel. Israel wouldn’t be able to be on its feet without the help of Jews living outside the country and the help they provide to their country in any form.
Listen! Isn’t Armenia a Christian country? Do Armenians fear going to church or to a house meeting to worship Hesus Christos and be arrested and beaten, like what is happening around the world today? Like what is happening to your Iranian neighbors?
What is the answer? Armenians need to get on their knees and pray to God Almighty and his Son Hesus Christos. Armenia should have a National Day of Prayer and Fasting, beeching the Lord for Mercy, Wisdom and for those in government and military leadership. It’s OK to talk to God alone or with a small group. We don’t need to be sitting in a church to pray. God hears our cries wherever we are.
