BURBANK—The Armenian National Committee of Burbank will accept Burbank City Council’s proclamation in recognition of the 96th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide on Tuesday, April 19.
Gaidzag Shahbazian, ANCA—B activist and Arpa Shahijanian, Burbank High School student, will address the Council, audience, and city at large, briefly discussing the importance of recognizing the Genocide.
The Armenian Youth Federation “Varak” Chapter in Burbank has teamed with ANCA—B to host the candlelight vigil that will immediately follow the presentations. This program will begin at 7:30pm on the front steps of Burbank City Hall, located at 275 E. Olive Ave.
The combination Proclamation/Vigil events are a longstanding Burbank tradition, demonstrating the city’s support for the deepest sentiments of its Armenian community. Last year, while serving as mayor, Gary Bric even sent a letter to President Obama urging him to recognize the Genocide.
“All are welcome to this gathering where we pay due respect to our martyrs and rededicate ourselves to seeking redress for the wrongs perpetrated against the Armenian nation by successive Turkish governments”, said event committee chair Jacqueline Khodabakhsh.
The Armenian National Committee of America— Burbank advances the social, economic, cultural, and political rights of its Armenian-American community and promotes increased Armenian-American civic participation at the grassroots and public policy levels.
