YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Nagorno-Karabakh President Arkady Ghoukassian signed a decree June 24 relieving Gerard Poghossian of his post as Prime Minister. Under the current legislation–the President will act for Prime Minister until a new prime minister and cabinet members are appointed. Ghoukassian said a new government will be formed in the near future.
During his meeting with government members–President Ghoukassian explained the main reasons for this decision.
Noting certain positive trends in the government’s activities–the President still sees serious drawbacks in tax policy–economic affairs–public health and other social spheres. These drawbacks negatively affect the social and economic situation of the republic and hinder the formation of a healthy moral atmosphere among the population–jeopardizing the very bases of trust between the people and the authorities–Ghoukassian emphasized.
The same day–the President met with members of the National Assembly of Nagorno Karabakh.
He stressed the need for concerted efforts between the executive branch and the legislature in developing the state system and establishing a free and democratic society.
The President urged the law-makers to stay in close cooperation to find solutions to the country’s current problems.
