YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The Chess Federation of Armenia called a press conference of Armenia’s leading chessplayer–world runner-up Vladimir Hakobian at the Central Chess House on September 9. Hakobian is not inclined to make a tragedy of his being so close to the world’s chess crown and failing to win it. He is pleased with his Las Vegas performance and he will try to uphold the high rating and the honor of Armenian chess at most various international competitions still to come in his chess career.
The press conference was also attended by other chessplayers. A group of old chessplayers announced the establishment of a club of chess veterans named after Vladimir Hakobian. The members of this club usually play chess in the capital’s Kirov Park. The club was recently provided with premises which are now under repairs. The re-opening of the renovated building and the opening of the club proper will take place in about three weeks.
