YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan) — "I am glad that I have a chance to respond to rumors that have been circulating in Armenia," Levon Ter-Petrosyan said–responding to a question about the possible resignation of Defense Minister Vazgen Sargsian.
"Rumors are the innocent thing–but in this case I think that they are extremely dangerous. I mean the resignation of Vazgen Sargsian–scandals which–in my opinion–are not innocent. If it is misinformation–it is ill-intentioned misinformation," Ter-Petrosyan said.
"We have learned a lesson from history. In 1920 there were also some powers which– pursuing political ambitions–undermined our national army. Unfortunately–today there are also powers for which political ambitions are more important than our army–the problem of Artsakh–the Armenian Cause– which they made their slogan. I don’t know the meaning of their existence–but [they] have made no positive contribution to the problem of Artsakh–be it certain individuals or political parties."
"We are still under the influence of the former totalitarian system when praise and awards were bestowed on certain persons. Today–if there is someone who really deserves a title of `National Hero of Armenia,’ it is Vazgen Sargsian. And if all members of our government worked as conscientiously and selflessly as Vazgen Sargsian we would live in a perfect state," said Ter-Petrosyan.
He added that his little finger was worth more than all those individuals and organizations that defamed Sargsian.
